How exciting ! I’ve been reading your journal each day and sit here today with tears in my eyes. Thanks for sharing such intimate, personal experiences. And, the pictures really help make everything feel so real – even half the world away.

Love and miss you guys !

It is good to hear all is where there, and it is very interesting to read your unfolding story every day. I just finshed building the agenda for the meeting Brian usually runs here at work, and I realized I had not checked for now posts yet today. I am glad to hear the sisters are getting along well. You will have to continue this when they return, as it will be interesting to see how she reacts to those two big boys!

Hey guys, You know I always have something to say. I was thinking how neat this blog is — and you’ll have to print it out for Carli’s to see in the future — as it is the beginning of her life with her family. Thanks for sharing your feelings so openly — I shared the sight with Yvonne today — she was excited to see it!
Love ya — glad all is well.
P.S. Got an email from Sandy — they are having a gerat time — they say its really beautiful where they’re at. 🙂

  4. Dear Brian,

I really enjoy reading your post and sharing in the joy that you are experiencing. One of the things that I appreciate is that in many of the adoptions that I have seen, the husband is so over-shadowed by the wife’s emotional response that they are often stifled in their ability to express the joy and wonderment that they are experiencing. Your writing is an excellent expression of the love that develops and bonds between a father and his daughter; there is a degree of jealousy that I feel that you are getting to go through this rather than me. I can definitely appreciate the pinching of the face and the your approach to discipline; it is challenging but the result is incredible. When I read your post I asked myself if this isn’t what God often does to us…..hold us until we can no longer fight him. It might also help to add another word to your Chinese vocabulary: Bou hou, which means bad! It is also great to see how love goes beyond words. I am also sure that in one weeks time she will be compltetely used to enjoy taking a bath!

It is so great to see how things are coming together; I think that it is a good thing that you are not part of a big group in Harbin….it helps to acclimate a little in private before your are continually in the public eye in Guangzhou!

You left Beijing a few days too early! One Monday we had a few inches of snow. I think that Beijing is its prettiest immediately after a new snowfall when everything is white. As the snow ended the wind cam down from Siberia and we now have sparkling blue skies…..a friend of mine was amazed because he could see the moon last night. This is one of the few days when Beijing is at its best….of course it is a little cold, but not compared to Harbin.
