How to enjoy a hike
First, just do it.
Amanda and I came home and had some time available. There were lots of things we needed to do, but we’d resolved to be more active, so we decided we must go. If you don’t start with the decision that you’re just going to do it, you’ll let yourself become distracted and deterred.
Second, pick some place new.
We’ve got a lot of tried and true hikes; but, we decided to pick someplace new. Instantly that adds some excitement. We flipped through our Chugach State Park hiking book and looked for hikes that fit our distance (4-5 miles). Here is our destination.
Third, take a dog.
Our younger dog, Sadie, came with us. She always loves going for walks and hikes. This one had the trifecta, though… water, mud, and snow. It caused her to go nuts and run back and forth and be hyper, which made us smile and laugh.
Finally, take pictures
I am not great at this, but I don’t give up trying. Hence this blog. Pictures preserve that memory and happy feeling you get from an adventure and allow you to experience part of the benefits again and again. The pic of the pretty flowers is from the hike, too, fyi.
Funny enough, the person that took this picture was from Anchorage and knew some of the same folks I did. You can’t escape the small-town of Alaska, no matter where you go.
